West Coast Turf Goes To Kansas City

Palm Desert, CA…….. The Arizona Diamondbacks won a World Series on it. The Anaheim Angels won a World Series on it. Now the Kansas City Royals figure they'll give West Coast Turf's Bull's-Eye Bermuda a shot, too.

West Coast Turf shipped 6500 square feet of Bull's-Eye Bermuda 1800 miles from Bermuda Dunes, CA, to the Kansas Royals' Kauffman Stadium in mid May. The sod was cut ¾" thick, and the Royals played on their newly installed infield just 7 days later.

"I saw the Bull's-Eye Bermuda at our new Spring Training Facility in Surprise (Arizona), and it was bullet-proof," said Kansas City Royals head groundskeeper Trevor Vance. "With all of the activity we have here at the stadium, I knew it was the perfect grass for us."

So why did Vance look West for sod? "I have worked with West Coast Turf before at the Super Bowl. I knew I could not beat their quality or their service. And, I wanted to use the Bull's-Eye. It was a gamble bringing in sod from California, but it came in beautifully, there is no doubt about that. Bull's-Eye survived the heat of California and Arizona, and I know bermuda likes humidity as well. We can certainly provide the heat and humidity here in Kansas City," he said.

"We have worked with Trevor for years at Super Bowls all over the country," said West Coast Turf spokesperson, Danielle Marman. "He has talked about using Bull's-Eye Bermuda for his infield for several seasons, and I think the success of the product at the Royals Spring Training Facility finally convinced him."
