Yes, It is Real! Sam Boyd Stadium Goes with West Coast Turf

Las Vegas, NV……..Along with a new coaching staff and a fresh new attitude, the Rebel's Sam Boyd Stadium just received an $18 million facelift. This "new look" includes a press box, private suites, and, for the very first time in 27 years, real grass.

Stadium management decided to go with 1 ½ inch, thick-cut Tifway II hybrid bermuda sod grown and installed by West Coast Turf . Sod crews installed the Southern California grown sand-based turf in less than three days.

While standing on the newly installed turf, UNLV football coach John Robinson told press, "It is kind of a benchmark of where this program is going. The fact is that it was a program that had been put down, and this is tangible proof that people are willing to do things to make it better."

Although the field was ready for play immediately after sod installation, the ground crew gave it about three weeks grow-in time before the undefeated Rebels opening home game September 18.

"West Coast Turf was chosen for Sam Boyd Stadium because it was the best product available. They know that we supply all of the professional stadiums in the west. We have a reputation they could trust," said West Coast Turf spokesman John Marman.

In addition to Sam Boyd Stadium, this year West Coast Turf has supplied turf to Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, 3 Com Park at Candlestick Point in San Francisco, Edison International Field in Anaheim, the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, the Los Angeles Coliseum, Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Oakland Coliseum, and Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix.
