FIELD GROWING FOR SUPER BOWL XXXIX
West Coast Turf, Home of Super Bowl Sod, growing and installing sod for record 7th Super Bowl Palm Desert, CA—West Coast Turf, the West’s largest grower and installer of turfgrass sod, is heading to the Super Bowl for an unprecedented seventh time. This year Jacksonville’s Alltel Stadium will be the recipient of the meticulously grown sod. Previous Super Bowl's have been supplied from West Coast Turf farms in California and Arizona. This year, West Coast Turf will oversee the growing and harvesting of the sod from fields planted in Southern Georgia almost a year and a half ago. Approximately 100,000 square feet of West Coast Turf’s “Princess-77” hybrid bermudagrass sod overseeded with an exclusive bluegrass/ryegrass mix will have the spotlight for the world’s most celebrated sporting event. "The sod is extremely strong and we expect by game time there will be just the right mixture of bermuda and cool-season grasses to provide optimum aesthetics and playability," states Danielle Marman, West Coast Turf spokesperson. Ed Mangan, the NFL’s Field Director, and longtime NFL Turf Consultant, George Toma, selected West Coast Turf based on past performance and familiarity. “We have had top-quality fields every time we’ve used West Coast Turf. I know we’ll get one again this year,” Mangan said. Toma is confident as well. “Not just anyone can grow sod. West Coast Turf gives you sod, ‘and then some.’” The Super Bowl Sod will be harvested a few weeks prior to Super Bowl Sunday. It will be installed over a three day period by veteran West Coast Turf crews, and an All-Star team of NFL, MLB, and other groundskeepers from around the world. West Coast Turf has previously supplied the NFL with premium quality sod and installation for Super Bowl XXVII at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena; XXIX in Miami, FL; XXX in Tempe, AZ; XXXII and XXXVII in San Diego, CA; and XXXVIII in Houston., TX.
